Human Factors Specialists

NATS is the world leader in air traffic management, ensuring the safe passage of more than 2.4 million flights through UK airspace every year. But we cannot perform this vital role if the safety and performance of our air traffic controllers, engineers and other staff is not supported. This is why we’re now expanding a human factors team that brings together complementary expertise in psychology, ergonomics, engineering and management.

You can expect exposure to a uniquely diverse range of technical projects at any one time, covering future systems, current operations and training. You’ll use your creativity and vision to challenge and improve existing practices, quantify human error risks, conduct applied research to inform decision-making and identify changes that achieve the best task performance.

You’ll be adept at addressing the human factor issues of complex systems, balancing safety, user and business drivers in a safety-critical environment. A good degree and/or relevant postgraduate qualification will ideally be supported by Chartered Psychology status, Membership of the Ergonomics Society or an Occupational Psychology background. You must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team, and have the consummate interpersonal skills to challenge, present, influence and negotiate.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Responsibility doesn't get much more real than ensuring that over 2 million flights each year pass safely through UK airspace. Tasked with a duty like that, we need nothing short of an expert Chartered Mechanical Engineer to make absolutely sure that our building services mechanical systems are totally reliable. These systems are fundamental to our work: you'll be fundamental to our work.

We're right at the forefront f technical advances, but with design experience and vision like yours, you can't help but spot better ways of doing things including how to improve the economics of our assets. So, as well as monitoring our existing systems, you'll leave your mark by setting standards and approving new designs and use your credibility and sway to influence across the organisation. it is just as high-profile as it sounds. After all, you will be our national expert.
